Ri
Iâm lying on the carpet in the middle of the room, spread eagle when the door opens again. I donât move. I couldnât have planned this better myself, even though I was just getting comfortable on the floor.
I feel a lump of fabric hit my stomach.
I peel an eye open to look down and find a pile of clothes.
âPut them on,â Beckett commands.
âYou know, Iâm really tired of your commands. If you want me to do something, you should ask. Otherwise, Iâm just going to fight you.â
Beckett grits his teeth as he stands over me, clearly on his last nerve with me already. This is going to be a long few days together if heâs already riled up at me.
âRi, will you please put on some clothes?â
âThank you for asking, but no.â
Beckettâs glare turns downright diabolical. Iâm pretty sure Iâm about to find out if he has any real feelings for me right here, right now. If I live, then he does care.
I raise my eyebrows and grin up at him as he stands over me with a sigh.
âCan we at least sit on the couch?â he asks.
âYou can. Iâm going to lie right here.â
âWhy do you have to make everything so difficult?â
âWhy do you have to make everything so boring?â
âI should just hire a doctor to shove some of everyoneâs sperm up in you, and whoeverâs sperm takes wins. Or he loses because he has to put up with you for the rest of his life.â
Heâs grumpy today. Lack of sleep and being tortured by someone he canât have will do that to a person.
I sit up and grab the shirt on top and slowly put it on. I donât bother with the bra or panties or even pants. The shirt is the only compromise heâs getting out of me.
âBetter?â
âYes, thank you,â Beckett sighs as he sits down on the rug next to me. He doesnât lie back like I do, but Iâm guessing this is his compromise.
He sits in silence for a minute while I continue to stare up at the ceiling, counting the dots on the popcorn ceiling like I would stars.
âTell me who you think I should pick,â I say suddenly.
Beckett looks over at me. âWhy do you think I have any idea who you should pick?â
âJust humor me.â
âI guess whoever was best in bed,â he teases.
âHayes wins then,â I say.
He gives me a dirty look.
âWhat? You thought I was going to say you? Sorry, but Hayes is bigger, and heâs a more selfless lover. Youâre far too selfish. I donât know how Odette puts up with you.â
He growls. âI am not a selfish lover.â
I laugh.
He falls back, exhausted with me.
I laugh harder.
Beckett is by far the best Iâve ever had, but I wonât be admitting that out loud ever again, and definitely not to his face.
âCome on, give me your pros and cons list. Tell me why you think I should or shouldnât marry each of them,â I say.
I need help. Beckett is off the table.
